How modern plasma physics is rediscovering what mystics understood a thousand years ago
Something remarkable is happening at the edges of science. While quantum physicists discover that consciousness plays a role in how reality crystallizes from potential, and plasma researchers find that 99.9% of the universe behaves like a living, self-organizing system, ancient wisdom traditions are whispering: “We told you so.”
A thousand years ago, in the Kashmir Valley, philosophers and mystics were mapping the nature of consciousness with breathtaking precision. They didn’t have telescopes or particle accelerators—they were using something far more direct, and boldly simplistic: their own awareness, explored through stillness and contemplation.
What they discovered sounds remarkably similar to what cutting-edge science is revealing today.
The Ancient Recognition: Everything is Consciousness
The Kashmir Shaivism tradition developed one of the most sophisticated maps of reality ever created: the 36 tattvas, or principles through which Pure Consciousness manifests into the world of form.
Their central insight was radical then, and remains radical now: Consciousness isn’t produced by matter. Matter is consciousness appearing in countless forms.
Think of it like this: waves are not separate from the ocean—they are ocean expressing itself as temporary forms. Similarly, you, me, trees, stars, galaxies—all are consciousness exploring itself through infinite expressions while remaining fundamentally one unified field.
The Kashmir Shaivists called this Pure Consciousness Paramashiva—the source from which all experience arises and to which it returns. Not a deity “out there,” but the very essence of awareness itself.
The Modern Discovery: A Universe Made of Living Plasma
Now, over a millennium later, plasma physicists are making discoveries that sound strikingly familiar.
They have learned that our universe is 99.9% plasma—not solid matter, but ionized, electrically charged particles that behave collectively like a living organism. This plasma doesn’t just float passively like a ghost through space. It self-organizes. It responds to stimuli. It maintains memory through electromagnetic oscillations.
Even more fascinating: the same patterns that govern plasma filaments in deep space are identical to the neural networks in your brain. Galaxy clusters branch and pulse like neurons. Solar coronas communicate through electromagnetic currents that mirror synaptic firing patterns. Can you envision that?
It’s as if the universe has the same organizational structure from the microscopic to the cosmic—suggesting a fractal intelligence operating at every scale.
Recent research reveals that:
- Plasma structures form complex, cell-like boundaries capable of storing and transmitting information
- Solar wind carries structured electromagnetic patterns that some researchers describe as “stellar thoughts”
- The Earth’s magnetic field pulses in rhythm with solar emissions, creating a planetary-scale communication system
- Even water—the medium of life—exhibits plasma-like properties when structured, acting as a biological information network
The Bridge: Same Truth, Yet Different Languages
When you place these discoveries alongside Kashmir Shaivism’s insights, something beautiful emerges: Both are describing consciousness as the fundamental substrate of reality—not something that emerges from complex arrangements, but the ground FROM which all arrangements arise.
The Kashmir Shaivists mapped this through direct experience, discovering that awareness itself has layers or frequencies—from dense identification with the body to the spacious recognition of Pure Consciousness. And modern plasma physics is mapping this through instruments, discovering that the universe exhibits different states of organization—from matter to plasma to coherent field dynamics—all sharing the same self-organizing intelligence.
Different methods are being applied, arriving at the same conclusion.
The ancient tattvas (principles of manifestation) and modern plasma states both describe how the One appears as the many while remaining One.
What This Means for You
If both ancient wisdom and modern science are pointing in the same direction, what does this mean for how you understand yourself and reality?
First: You are not a separate fragment in an indifferent, mechanistic universe. You are consciousness itself, exploring what it’s like to experience life through your particular form. The same intelligence that organizes galaxies is the intelligence reading these words right now. Pause if you’d like, and read this again. Let it thoroughly sink in.
Second: The boundaries between “inner” and “outer” dissolve. Your thoughts, emotions, and awareness are expressions of the same field that animates stars and plasma currents. When you shift into heart coherence or stillness, you’re aligning with the fundamental organizing principle of the cosmos.
Third: What we call “death” is revealed as a phase transition rather than an ending. If consciousness is fundamental—if you ARE consciousness temporarily appearing as a human form—then the ending of this form doesn’t mean the ending of YOU. It means consciousness continues exploring—whether that's in ways we might recognize or in dimensions of experience entirely beyond our current imagination. From our current state of awareness, we can’t fathom such expanded experiences and layers of reality. What both ancient wisdom and modern science suggest is that awareness itself doesn't ever disappear; it transitions.
Those who have experienced clinical death and returned often describe profound variations in their encounters.
- Some meet guides in structured environments
- Others dissolve into wordless bliss
- Some experience detailed life reviews
- Others remember only overwhelming love and light
Rather than contradicting each other, these differences may reflect the unique electromagnetic signature each person has developed through their lifetime of thoughts, emotions, and awareness.
The frequency you consistently embody in life—whether resistance and contraction, or wonder and openness—becomes your baseline reality in transition as well. This isn’t about earning rewards or punishments, but about consciousness naturally expressing through the patterns it has cultivated. Someone living in constant defensiveness experiences a different quality of awareness than someone practicing presence and curiosity—and this continues beyond physical form.
The Kashmir Shaivists understood this intuitively: death is simply consciousness transitioning between frequencies of manifestation. The same awareness that reads these words now is what continues—not as a separate “soul” going somewhere, but as the eternal field of consciousness exploring new octaves of itself.
The Question of Heaven
Many spiritual traditions speak of “heaven” as a destination of reward after death. But what if heaven isn’t a place you go to but a recognition of what you’ve always been?
Some researchers propose that consciousness continues through electromagnetic plasma states after biological death—that the organized electromagnetic patterns we call “you” persist and transition to subtler dimensions of the cosmic field.
The Kashmir Shaivists taught that heaven is recognizing you were never separate from Pure Consciousness in the first place. What we call “death” is just consciousness dropping one temporary costume and remembering its infinite nature.
Both perspectives offer the same comfort: You are not going anywhere because you never left home. You are the field itself, playing at being separate, and one day remembering you were always whole.
Let Insight Become Lived Experience
Whether you resonate more with ancient wisdom maps or cutting-edge plasma research, both point toward the same practical recognition:
Right now, as you read these words, you are the universe becoming aware of itself through your unique perspective.
When you rest in stillness, you are touching the same source that organizes plasma filaments across cosmic space.
When your heart opens in love or wonder, you’re expressing the coherence that maintains stellar systems.
When you recognize your deeper nature beyond thoughts and circumstances, you are discovering what mystics and scientists point to: the living, intelligent, unified field that is your true identity.

The Door is Already Ajar
Science and spirituality are converging on a magnificent truth: reality is not a collection of separate objects but a unified field of consciousness exploring itself through infinite expressions. Can you feel yourself stepping through this emergent threshold of experience?
You do not need to choose between mystical experience and scientific discovery. They are complementary ways of exploring the same mystery.
The Kashmir Shaivists used meditation and contemplation as their laboratory.
Modern researchers use instruments and mathematics as their laboratory.
Both are mapping the same territory: the living universe that dreams itself into existence through awareness, plasma, light, and love.
The most profound laboratory of all? Your own direct experience.
Take a moment right now. Rest in stillness. Feel your breath. Notice the awareness that notices everything else.
That awareness — spacious, present, fundamentally peaceful—is not yours. You are "it." And "it" is the same consciousness that moves through plasma currents, that organizes matter into galaxies, that beats your heart without your effort.
Ancient wisdom and modern science are both inviting you to recognize the most obvious truth: You are not in the universe. The universe is in you. Because ultimately, you and the universe are one consciousness, temporarily pretending to be two.
May you enjoy the beauty of your inner self and outer world.
Thank you for your willingness to explore the inexplicable with me.
With love,

If you are in the mood for silent reflection, find your favorite spot, sit in stillness, and consider that wonder dissolves the need to have definitive answers while creating an opening to infinite possibility. It’s the opposite of grasping or defending positions—it’s pure receptivity to what IS and what MIGHT BE.
For me, authentic spiritual inquiry looks like remaining: humble before the mystery, curious rather than certain, comforted by the recognition of consciousness as fundamental without needing to map every detail of its expressions.
I offer this inquiry as an opening to possibility—one thread among many in the heart-opening exploration of reality's nature. Consider asking these questions and let further inquiry arise from within you:
“What allows the experience of wonder to expand in my mind and heart?”
“What would life be like if I lived in awe and wonder, over and over again?”
